Trade Secrets began its life as a little melody I wrote on an airplane. The melody contains a built-in modulation, which I overlap with a copy of itself in the new key; the piece is built on this soft, quiet trading of line and timbre between the four players. With each repetition of the melody, however, it departs a bit further from the original source.
